Ultrabook To Drive Notebook Growth This Year – WitsView

According to WitsView, the panel research division of market intelligence provider TrendForce Corp, notebook shipments will reach 213.5 million units this year, up 9.4 percent from 195.1 million units last year. The overall growth will be mainly driven by Inte’s latest Ivy Bridge Processor, and Microsoft’s Windows 8 – to be released later this year. The research firm forecast that ultrabooks would account for at least 10 percent of all notebook sales this year, up from 5 percent last year.

HP has joined the Ultrabook competition very late, by the time the HP Folio 13 was released, many of its rivals like Acer, Lenovo, Asus, and Toshiba was already cashing in on the next big laptop thing. We assume though that HP has got it all figured out and wanted to enter this new market with style. The HP Folio 13, price starting at only $900, has a 128GB SSD, a backlit keyboard, a full sized HDMI and Ethernet port, it surely has something even the Asus Zenbook UX31 and the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch has to be aware of. They didn’t achieve this without short cuts, we will see what sacrifices they have made and how much of a deal it could mean for potential buyers of one of these devices.
